Who personal training for back pain is for
- Your back tightens up after long days at a desk.
- You’ve tweaked it lifting a kid, a suitcase or something at home.
- You finished physical therapy and want to know what’s next.
- You’ve been told to “strengthen your core” and don’t know what that means in a gym.
A safety note: we’re coaches, not doctors. See a doctor or physical therapist first if your pain runs down your leg, comes with numbness or weakness, started after a fall or accident, or keeps getting worse.
How we start
Your first session is mostly conversation and watching you move. Your coach asks when the pain flares, what eases it and what you want to get back to doing.
Then we watch the basics: bending, squatting, stepping up and carrying. People with back pain are often stiff through the hips, weak in the glutes and bend mostly from the low back. Your plan is built around what you can do pain-free that day.
What the first few weeks look like
Early work is simple, controlled and done often:
- Hip hinging with a dowel along your back
- Glute bridges
- Bird dogs and dead bugs to train trunk stability
- Single-arm carries while walking tall
- More walking overall
Try at home: once or twice a day, do 10 glute bridges, 6 bird dogs per side and a 5-minute walk. Skip any move that sharpens your pain. Many people feel less stiff within a couple of weeks.
Once those feel easy, we add load: goblet squats to a box, deadlifts from a raised surface, rows and split squats. The goal is a back strong enough that lifting stops feeling scary. For general guidance on staying active with back pain, see the American Council on Exercise.

The Momentum Method
Most plans fail because they ask too much too soon. We start small, build the habit, then build on it.
Book your intro
A sit-down conversation with a coach, not a workout. We learn your goals, your schedule and what hasn’t worked before, and do an InBody scan.
Start small
Your first weeks are built around what you can actually keep up with.
Make it a habit
Your coach adjusts the plan when work or life gets in the way, so you never have to start over.
Build momentum
Small wins stack up until training is just part of your week.

Questions about training with back pain
For most everyday back pain, gentle movement helps more than bed rest. Start with walking and moves that don’t increase your pain. See a doctor first if you have leg pain, numbness or pain after an injury.
Yes. Physical therapy works on the pain. A coach builds the strength that lowers the chance it comes back. Bring any exercises from your PT to your first session.
Two coached sessions a week plus daily walking is a common starting point. Short, regular movement usually beats one long workout. Your coach adjusts on the days your back feels worse.
No. We start with what you can do pain-free today and build from there.
